Sadly, the NYT has taken a "sore loser" stance on Van Rompuy's selection, as has Gordon Brown--even downplaying the position to one of mere ceremony (see http://euandus3.wordpress.com/2009/11/20/europe-has-a-president-lets-hear-from-the-sore-losers/)

So, when Timothy McVeigh sells guns and white supremacist literature at gun shows plus has numerous militia contacts he is a white supremacist and a militia member.

But, when Malik Nidal Hasan (maybe you didn't mention this murderer's name because you didn't know it, right?) equates jihadist suicide bombers to soldiers throwing themselves on grenades to save their squad and screams "Allah Akbar" before opening fire he is a...disturbed member of the US military with secondary PTSD from listening to the stories of those have actually been in combat.

You're right, there is a double standard.

That's pretty neat that you got to meet him in person.

However, Chomsky is an anarchist or, if you prefer libertarian-socialist.

I thought you might enjoy reading my interviews with him from a ways back:

http://gritsandroses.org/interviews-2001-2006/

and my more recent interview with Anthony Arnove, who edited The Essential Chomsky
